武悪 彩色完了（buaku recoloured） ― 2021/09/04
9月になって一気に気温が下がりました。膠が固まりやすい
冬までにあと9面仕上げなければなりません。
以前から気になっていた武悪の彩色をやり直しました。
It's suddenly getting cooler in September.
I have to finish nine more masks until winter
when the glue tends to harden.
I recolored Buaku that I've been wondering about for a while.
既に塗った色を落とします。
やっていて分かったんですが、このまま手を加えて
完成まで漕ぎつけるというのも「有り」ですね。
もちろん面そのものもダメになる覚悟ですが。
Removing the colour I have already painted.
I noticed during I was doing it, but it is also one way
to modify it as it is and to reach a goal.
Of course, I am determined to ruin the mask itself.
まあ、こんな程度としておきます。

乾燥させます。
The mask is dried.
面が大きいのでその分胡粉も膠も多く使います。
Since the mask is large, you use a lot of whitewash and glue.
ペーパーを掛けますが凸凹が大きいので、その分指も意外と疲れません。
On sandpapering, my fingers are also unexpectedly tired
because of a large uneven surface.
この色で一旦スタートしましたがうまく行かず、再度色を落として
上記の作業を繰り返してもう一度挑戦しました。
何かこう調味料加えて料理の出来具合を見ているような
感じです(笑)。

and tried again.

この色で上塗りを数回繰り返します。

武悪完成しました。
ホントはもっと突き詰めたいのですが、なにせ十分な時間がない。
よく時間は自分で作るものと言われますが、「ないものはないんです。」
という気分ですね。

彫りは段々形になっていき、完成したらどんな色を塗ろうかと楽しめるん
ですが、彩色は絵と同じで最後にならないと全容が分からなく悩みっぱなし
です。
While you're carving, it gradually becomes a shape and you can enjoy
what colour you want to apply when it is completed.
The colouring is the same as the picture, and I'm still worried
because I finally know the whole picture at the end.
痩男 彩色終わりました(yase-otoko recoloured) ― 2021/09/11
痩せ男の色を塗り直しました。
何か違うなとは思っていたんですが彩色をやってなかったんです。
まず色を削り落とします。いつも思うんですがこの時点での色合いが
いいので、このまま完成形としたいくらいです。
I recoloured yase-otoko.
I thought something wrong, but I didn't colour it.
First, scraping off the colour.
I always think that the colour at this point is good, so
I want to make it a completed form as it is.
剥ぎ取りはこのくらいとしておきましょう。
Enough scraping.
何となく詫びさびに通ずるものが感じられます。
Somehow I can feel something that leads to wabisabi.
何となくグロテスクな感じですね。
彫りでこれ以上ベースの木を削るとほとんど骸骨に近くなるので
痩せさせるのはこれくらいが限度でしょう。
Somehow I feel it grotesque.
If you carve the base wood any more, it will be almost like a skeleton.
So,this is the limit to scrape.
乾かします。
Making it dry.
乾くと大分色が違いますね。
The colour is quite different when it dries.
大なり小なりささくれがあるのでやっぱり
胡粉で下地を作ります。
There are more or less hangnail, so I'll make a base with whitewash.
上塗りはこの色でこんな感じとなりました。
The topcoat looks like this with this colour.
ぼかしを入れます。
Adding a blur.
痩せ男完成しました。
前回、上塗りの段階だったらまだ修正できたんですが、
毛描きが入るともう駄目ですね。下地からやり直しです。
yase-otoko was completed.
Last time, if it was the topcoat stage, I could modify it.
It's no good if you draw a hair.
You have to start over from the undercoating.
龍女 彩色終わりました (Ryunyo recoloured) ― 2021/09/18
龍女は東京（品川）に短い期間でしたがいた時、アパートで彫だけ
終わらせていたものです。両隣に部屋のないアパートだったので
音は余り聞こえて来ず、こちらも快適に作業が出来ました。
今となっては懐かしい思い出が頭の中を駆け巡ります。
Ryunyo had been finished carving in a flat
when I was in Tokyo(Shinagawa).
As it was the flat with no rooms on either side,
so I couldn't hear much sound.
So, I was able to work comfortably here as well.
Nostalgic memories run around in my head now.
龍女も彩色をやり直しました。これがまた厄介で
上塗りの色が思うようにいかず、3回ほど色落とし作業を
しなければなりませんでした。
Ryunyo also was recoloured.It’s a lot of work.
The topcoat didn't go well as expected and
I had to do the colour removal work about 3 times.
髪の毛、口廻りを既に描いてしまったらやり直すのに
相当勇気が要ります。数か月かかって彫った木地が一回の色落としで
使い物にならなくなるのですから。
If you have already drawn the hair and mouth area,
it takes a lot of courage to start over. Because the wood
carved over several months becomes useless
with one colour removal.
今回も彩色に10日ほど掛かってしまいました。
なにせ色付けて乾かすという作業が一番時間がかかります。
練習用の面も一つ作っておけばいいのですが、
どれを練習用にするかという問題もありますけどね。

After all, the work of colouring and drying takes quite some time.
I'd like to make one mask for practice.

再び胡粉塗です。
凹部に胡粉がいい感じに入ってます。
It's Gofun again.
The whitewash is nicely in the recess.
大体こんな感じとなります。
It's almost like this.
上塗りをこの色で進めましたが、彩色が思ったより濃く
やり直しました。
I moved the topcoat forward in this colour,but it was darker
than I expected and I tried it again.
次はこの色で進めましたが、彩色の段階で色が濃くなり
やり直し。かなり薄い色でスタートしないとダメなようです。
Next I did with this colour,but the colour becomes darker
at the colouring stage and tried it again.
It seems that you have to start with pretty light colour.
苦悩の末、やっとこの色で決定しました。
筆、乳鉢、梅皿など道具を1階の洗面まで
待って行って洗う。この繰り返しが結構煩雑で嫌になる・・。
After suffering, I finally decided on this colour.
Taking tools such as brushes, mortars, and plates
to the washroom on the ground floor to wash them.
This repetition is quite complicated and it's such a pain.
龍女完成しました。色が決まらなくて回答が出ず、
先に進まない苦悩の日々が続くというのも山登りに通ずる所が
あるような気がします。道に迷って不安な気持ちとなり
進みたくとも進めずその場から動けない。
Ryunyo is finally completed.
I feel that has something in common with to mountain climbing:
I can't decide a colour, I can't get an answer,I can't move forward,
and the days of suffering continue.
I get lost and feel uneasy, and even if I want to move forward,
I can't do that and I can't move on the spot.
ピークを越えたらその先にまだピークがあった。
頂上はどこだ。昔を思い出してしまいました。
とにかく時間がかかった龍女でした。
You got through the peak, there was still a peak beyond that
Where is the peak? I remembered the old days.
Anyway,colouring Ryunyo took a long time.
