大雲沢ヒュッテ (Ookumosawa Pension) ― 2026/03/30
もうかれこれ20年くらい前に泊まったことのある魚沼市の大雲沢ヒュッテに
行ってきました。道の脇にはまだ沢山の残雪があり今年も豪雪だったのが伺えます。
I went back to Ookumosawa hut in Uonuma City where I stayed about 20 years ago.
There was still a lot of snow remaining on the side of the road.
It appears that we had heavy snowfall again this year.
大白川駅の先を左折し暫く走って橋を渡り旧大原スキー場まで来ると
残雪で通行止めとなっていました。戻って今度は左の道路を行ってみると
一軒家の先でまた通行止めとなっているではありませんか。
I turned left after Ooshirakawa Station and drove for a while.
I crossed the bridge and arrived at the former Ohara Ski Resort.
The road was closed due to remaining snow.
Then I went up the left road this time,
so there's another road closure just past that house!
「あれっ、おかしいな。」以前、来た時はもっと上の方だったかなと思いを巡らせます。
「先ほど緑色の屋根の家があったけれどもしかしたら通り過ぎたかな。」
「他のお客さんはここからもしかして歩いて宿まで行ったのかな。」と
いろいろあることないことが頭を過った瞬間でした。
Hmm, that's strange.I wonder if it was higher up when I came here before.
I think I just passed a house with a green roof. Did I miss it?
Did other guests perhaps walk from here to the inn?
It never crossed my mind.
ナビにもう一回入力してみると進行方向の矢印が逆となっており通り過ぎたことが判明しました。
ホッとしたと同時に昔の記憶なんて当てにならないとつくづく思った次第です。
ご主人の浅井さんとは何回か守門岳を登ったことがあり昔の記憶が蘇ってきました。
I tried entering the address into the navigation system again.
Surprisingly, the arrow was pointing in the opposite direction of travel.
I found out I had passed it. I felt relieved, and at the same time,
it really made me realize how unreliable old memories can be.
I had climbed Mt. Sumon with my landlord, Mr. Asai, several times.
Memories came flooding back.
来年は国道289号線がやっと開通するらしい。それに伴って八十里越えも
注目されることが伺えます。歩いてしか行けない本家本元の八十里越えも注目されるかな。
今年は20年ぶりにチャレンジしてみたいが体力は大丈夫だろうか。
Next year, National Route 289 will finally open.
Consequently, it appears that the Hachijuri Pass will also attract attention.
The original Hachijuri Pass, which can only be reached on foot, might also attract attention.
I'd like to try it again this year after 20-years,
but I wonder if my physical condition will be okay?
漆塗り (lacquer work) ― 2026/03/23
いよいよ彩色に取り掛かろうと思います。現在、彫りを終えたものが14面、
胡粉を塗り終えたものが2面あります。
これから漆を塗る6面と合わせて22面色を付けなくてはなりません。
I'm finally going to start colouring.
There are 14 masks that have been lacquered and 2 masks
that have been coated with Gofun (shell white pigment).
Including the six masks that will be lacquered next,
there are 22 masks in total that need to be coloured.
今週、漆を1回塗ったんですがまだ気温が上がらず部分的に乾いてない
部分が残り一旦中止しました。10℃ではまだ寒いですよね。
こうなると大騒ぎ。
I applied lacquer once this week,but
The temperature hasn't risen enough yet,
and some parts are still not dry, so I've temporarily stopped.
It's still chilly at 10°C. This is a big problem.
固まらなかった部分はもう何をしてもダメなので、2回目の塗りに
期待をかけるしかありません。
Nothing can be done for the parts that didn't set.
I can only hope the second coat works.
風呂場まで持って行って熱い蒸気で強制的に固まらせると
表面が白っぽい艶消しになります。とにかく何とかしなくてはなりません。
If you take it to the bathroom and force it to solidify with hot steam,
the surface will be white matte.I have to figure it out.
またまたやってしまったと後悔するも、急ぐと手間と時間が何倍にもなるかな。
せめて気温が18℃くらいになるまで待つか。漆塗は連休前くらいになるかな。
I regretted doing it again. Haste makes waste.
ShallI wait until the temperature is at least around 18°C?
The lacquering will probably be done around the time of the long weekend.
小休止 （A short break) ― 2025/07/20
あと1個で漆塗りの段階というところですが、サボって
少し休んでいます。年を取ったせいか漆にすぐ被れるようなので
この炎天下の続く中ではちょっと控えた方がいいかなと。
There is only one more step left to be lacquered.
I'm taking a little break.
Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I get poisoned with lacquer easily.
I think it might be best to hold back a bit in this hot weather.
今年は6月ですでに真夏の暑さ。8、9月はいったいどうなるのだろうかと
いささか心配しています。家が古いので猛暑による劣化のスピードが
以前にも増して進んでいます。
It's already midsummer heat in June this year.
I'm a little worried about what August and September will bring.
The house is old, so the heat is causing it to deteriorate faster than ever before.
作らない期間が長いと次に復帰するまでエネルギーを
消費するので早く軌道に乗せないとと急いでいますが。
あれこれ考えていては何も進まない。とにかく座って手を動かさなければ。
If you don't make it for a while, it will consume energy until you return to it.
I'm in a hurry to get it back on track.
If you think too much, nothing will move forward.
Anyway, I have to sit down and get to work.
