万媚6（Manbi6) ― 2025/12/28
暫くご無沙汰でした。やっぱり一旦中断すると再開するのに
時間がかかるのは本当でしたね。7月のあの酷暑で作る気が起きなかった
ということにしておきましょう(笑)。
It's been a while. It's true that once you stop, it takes a long time to restart.
Let's just say that the scorching heat in July meant I didn't feel like making it.
何を彫ろうかなと考えても決まらないので、とにかく手を動かそうと
作業台の前に腰を据えました。その前にストーブで部屋を暖めないと
極寒の寒さでは指がかじかんで動きません。
I can't decide what to carve, so I decided to get my hands moving and sat down at my workbench.
Before that, I need to heat up the room with the stove.
In the extreme cold, my fingers get numb and I can't move them.
犬の散歩は飼い主も同時に散歩せざるを得なくなり結果的に健康に良いと
言われるそうな。これとはちょっと違いますが能面制作に引張られて作業は
中断しないようにと反省。
Walking a dog forces the owner to walk at the same time.
As a result, it is said to be good for your health.
This is a little different,but I regret not letting the Noh mask production stop me from working.
コツを忘れてないかと慎重に彫り進めます。中心線の曲線はちょっとくらいいいかなと
妥協すると、否が応でも後で大幅な修正する羽目になるので正確に彫ります。
1月中には何とか顔の形にしたいなと思っています。
I carve carefully, making sure I haven't forgotten the knack.
If you compromise and decide that the curve of the centre line is okay,
whether you like it or not, you will end up having to make major corrections later.
So I have to carve accurately.
I hope to make it recognizable as a face by the end of January.

万媚6 （Manbi6) ― 2025/12/31
明けましておめでとうございます。
2026年は万媚からスタートできました。万媚は平成19年に最初に作った面です。
I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year.
I could start 2026 with Manbi. Manbi is the first mask I made in 2007.
万媚はあまり作ってないと思っていたのですが、6個目となったようです。
口元が小面に似ていて目が大きいのが特徴かな。これが彫り終えたら
4つまとめて漆塗りにかかる予定ですが、
I thought that Manbi hadn't been made many.It seems this is the sixth one.
The mouth resembles Koomote and the eyes are large.
After these four pieces are carved, they will be lacquered.
気温が低いので漆が固まらず春先になるかも知れません。もう3～4個彫ってからと
なるかな。気温が低いと彩色も膠がゼラチン状になりできないので。
Because the temperature is low, the lacquer will not harden
and work may have to wait until early spring.
I guess I'll have to carve 3 or 4 more.
If the temperature is low, the glue will turn gelatinous and colouring will not be possible.
冬の間、彫に徹して春先から昨年彫った十数個の面の彩色の予定です。
が、予定外のこともあるかも知れません。今のところ朝起きてもどこも
普段と変わりありませんが、いつ何時これが崩れるかもしれません。
I'll devote myself to carving during the winter.
Starting in early spring, I plan to paint over a dozen masks I carved last year.
But there might be some unexpected things.
So far, when I wake up in the morning, nothing feels different from usual.
This could collapse at any moment.
何せ健康第一と意識する歳になってきました(笑)。
今年はいろいろな意味であえて盛り沢山の一年にしたいですな。
I've reached an age where I need to be conscious of my health as my number one priority.
I want this year to be a year full of excitement in many ways.
