極寒の冬も終わり手もかじかまない程度に温かくなってきました。
やっとこれで２年越しの彫り作業も終了が見えてきました。
The extremely cold winter is over and it's getting warm enough
that my hands don't get numb.
Finally, the two-year carving project is nearing completion.
つのは材料が小さいので固定するのに苦労します。
鋸と彫刻刀を使って四角の形に削って最後に丸くします。
面本体には接着部の穴を開け、接着面は円形に一段下げて削っておきます。
The horns are difficult to secure because the material is small.
Then, using a saw and a carving knife, I carve it into a square shape
and finally round it.
You drill holes in the adhesive part of the face plate.
At the same time, the bonding surface is circularly recessed
and shaved down by one step.
つのの接着部はそれとは逆の形にしておきます。
接着面は材料を当てては削りを繰り返し最後は妥協して終わります。
このあたりは文明の利器はどうやらないようです。
The adhesive part of the horn should be in the opposite shape.
The adhesive surface is created by repeatedly applying and scraping off material,
and finally making compromises.
It seems there are no modern conveniences around here.
接着面を合わせるのに大難儀します。
あとは強力接着剤の力を借りましょう。

温かくなってきたのでこれで次回からは漆作業であると思いましたが、
勢いが止まりませんので、キリのいいところで
もう一つ女面を彫ってからにしようと思います。

深井3 (fukai3) ― 2026/03/08
ここ数日寒いのと同時に毎年恒例の花粉症に早くもなり、
連休まで鼻水と涙目の毎日となりそうです。
車のタイヤはもう交換したので雪もパラつく程度であって欲しいですな。
It's been cold these past few days and my annual hay fever has started early.
It looks like I'll be having runny noses and teary eyes every day until the holidays.
I've already changed the tyres on my car, so I hope it's only a light snowfall.
深井はいかにも中年女性といったお面です。
今回は3回目です。1回目は失敗、2回目は目が垂れ気味だったので、
今回はそれらを修正して如何にも怖そうな表情を目指します。
Fukai is a mask that looks like a middle-aged woman.
This is Fukai's third time.
The first time was a failure, and the second time, the eyes were a bit droopy.
I'll fix those and aim for a really scary expression.
この材料は褐色がかった色を見ても、かれこれ10年以上乾燥させています。
というか、作る方とその他諸事情により時間を取られ手が付けられなかった
というのが本音です(笑)。
This material has a brownish colour,it has been drying for over 10 years.
BecauseI'm too busy making it and other things.the truth is,
I couldn't do anything about it.
今回は目を少し飛び出させて段違いとし、頬を削って痩せ顔にしたいな。
目・鼻・頬の各バランスが大事で、型紙作業の後、削ってはみての繰り返しです。
This time I want to make the eyes pop out a little to make it stand out.
And I want to shave the cheeks and make it look thinner.
The balance of the eyes, nose, and cheeks is important.

材料の状態はすこぶるよく彫刻刀が気持ちよく入っていきます。
が、数時間やっていると指も痛くなるので、
ほどほどのところで止めておきます。
The condition of the material is excellent, so the carving knife goes in smoothly.
After a few hours, my fingers start to hurt, so I stop at a moderate point.

今週は昔の知人に会いにちょっと上越まで遠征してきました。

春めいた景色と雄大な妙高連山の眺めを堪能してきました。
歳をとったせいかパソコンの字を見るより精神的に安らぎますね。
というか視野が刻々と変るので飽きさせないんでしょうか。
I enjoyed the spring-like scenery and the magnificent view of
the Myoko mountain range.
As I get older, reading on paper brings me more peace of mind
than reading on a computer screen.
Or rather, the perspective changes constantly, so it keeps you from getting bored.
深井はかれこれ3回目となりますが、型紙の上口・下口ラインが
ちょうどぴったしなんですね。小面系は何度か修正を重ねて

難しいのは目～鼻～頬の縦ラインが一発で決まらないこと。
頬の膨らみの頂点は最後の最後で決まってくるということかな。
まあ、彫を重ねると分かってくることですかね。
It's difficult to get the vertical line from the eyes to the nose and cheeks right in one go.
I guess the peak of the cheek's fullness is determined right at the very end.
It's something you come to understand as you gain more experience in carving/sculpting, isn't it?
さてと、来週から寒さも和らいでくるでしょうから、やっと仕上げ系
の作業の予定です。２年越しでしょうか。その前に、漆作業が
あり、かぶれるんですが避けて通れません。
Well then, the weather should start to get milder from next week.

本物で実物の形が分からないといった悪い結果となっています。

where the actual shape of the object is not recognizable.
風景写真なんかはそれでいいんでしょうが、
レンズの広角機能は外せるのかな。
That might be fine for landscape photography, though.
Can the wide-angle function of the lens be removed?
