いよいよ裏面彫ですが、今回は材料が柔らかすぎたようで
見る見るうちに底面くらいまで進みました。

This time the material was too soft, so it quickly progressed to the bottom.
面の厚さが1～2センチ前後となったところで目鼻口の穴を開けます。
あまり極端な薄さを追求すると丈夫さが損なわれるので、ほどほどな
ところで止めます。
Once the mask is about 1 to 2 centimeters thick,
I'm cutting out holes for the eyes, nose, and mouth.
If you pursue extreme thinness too much, its durability will be compromised.
I'll stop here before it gets too long.
ここまで来るとそろそろ指が痛くなってくるので、休み休み彫ります。
左手で面を押さえるので左手の指も痛くなります。
やり過ぎると翌朝、指が強張って心配になるので、ほどほどで止めるとします。
By this point, my fingers are starting to hurt, so I take breaks as I carve.
Since you press the surface with your left hand, your fingers will also hurt.
If I overdo it, my fingers will be stiff the next morning and I'll be worried.
I'll stop there.
この彫る作業というのは夢中になれるので続けられるんでしょうね。
スーっと彫刻刀が進むのを見ると気持ちがいいですもんね。
It's probably because you can get so absorbed in the carving work
that you can keep doing it.
It feels so satisfying to see the carving tool glide smoothly.
しかし身体も発熱し熱くなるので夏はクーラーが必要です。
しかし今年の冬は大雪で気温が低いので暖房ももちろん必要です。

and you will need an air conditioner in the summer.
However, this winter has been heavy with snow and low temperatures,
so heating is of course necessary.
何はともあれ順調に彫っていますが、数が増えてくると今度は
彩作業が思いやられます。ま、彩色もやっているとそれなりに
これはこれで色の調合に悩みます。
Anyway, I'm carving smoothly.
It's not looking good when the numbers increase, especially for the colouring work.
When I'm doing colouring, I struggle with colour mixing in its own way.
般若（白5）Hannya(white5) ― 2026/02/08
天気予報は今日明日と吹雪マークですが、来週はもう晴れマークが
出てきたので、今期は予報はこれが底かな。
それにしても最低気温がマイナスだとさすがに堪えます。
The weather forecast is calling for a blizzard today and tomorrow.
It's already sunny for next week, so I guess this is the bottom of
the forecast for this season.
Even so, I can't stand the cold when the minimum temperature is below zero.
彫ってみたい般若の画像があるので型紙から作り始めます。
画像の縮尺を拡大コピーするためコンビニへ行ってきます。
でも自宅のプリンターでも出来たっけ。
I have an image of a Hannya that I want to carve,
so I'll start by making a pattern.
I'm going to the convenience store to make a larger copy of the image.
But I could do it on my home printer.
画像をトレース用紙に写してからボール紙に写します。
輪郭で各ラインの幅が決まるので型紙は面一つに対して1セット
必要となります。転用はほぼ効きません。
After copying the image onto tracing paper, I'll transfer it to cardboard.
The width of each line is determined by the outline.
One set of pattern paper is required for each masks.
It's not easily repurposed.
厄介ですけれど慣れれば型紙作るのも楽しい作業となります。
久々にでもないですが今回は般若としました。
今回は目の上の笠の形と口元の幅寸法を違わせます。
It's troublesome at first, but once you get used to it,
making patterns becomes an enjoyable task.
It's not been a while, but this time I chose Hannya.
This time, the shape of the bulges above the eyes and
the width of the mouth are different.
般若は人気があるようで少し数を増やしたいと思っています。
仕上げの段階で思い切って削ってやせ型としてみようかな。
寒いのでなかなか作業が進みません。
Hannya seems to be popular, so I would like to increase the number a little.
I might try to slim it down significantly in the final stages.

般若（白5）Hannya(white5) ― 2026/02/16
今週は久々に所用で長岡の図書館に行ってきました。
ニュースでは知っていましたが、家々の屋根にはまだ
80センチくらいの雪がありビックリ。
This week, I went to the library in Nagaoka for business
for the first time in a while.I heard about that on the news.
I'm surprised to see about 80 centimeters of snow still on the roofs of houses.
古い家だったら耐えられるかどうかこちらが心配になるくらいでした。
深々と降っている最中だったら私の軽い車ではどうだったか。
峠は越えたといえどまだ2月なので安心はできませんね。
The house was so old, I was worried if it would hold up.
What if it had been snowing heavily? My light car might have struggled.
Although we've passed the peak, it's still February,
so we can't let our guard down yet.
テレビではミラノオリンピック一色ですが、私の場合情報源はPCが主に
なりつつあります。スマホでは字が小さいので目が疲れるんですよ(笑)。
All the TV stations are broadcasting the Olympics.
In my case, my PC is becoming the main source of information.
The text is small on my smartphone, so my eyes get tired（lol）.
オーディオには詳しくはないですが、
目の前にあるノートPCの音よりも離れたところにある
テレビの音の方が臨場感はありますね。
I don't know much about audio.
Sound of the TV is more realistic than laptop sound in front of me.
なのでPCを見る時はヘッドフォンが離せません。
最近のPCはヘッドフォンのオンオフは
マウスで操作できるのでこれは大変便利ですね。
So I can't take my headphones off when I'm watching my PC.
With recent PCs, you can turn headphones on and off with the mouse,
which is very convenient.
般若は彫が深いので仕上げ面に近くならないとイメージが掴めません。
一番深いところが一番高くなるといった感じでしょうか。
出っ張りが足りなければ周囲を深く彫ると相対的にその出っ張りが目立つ。
というのもアリです。
Hannya has a chiseled face that it is difficult to get a good idea of ??it
until you get close to the finished surface.
It seems like the deepest part is the highest.
If the protrusion is not enough, you can carve the surrounding area deeper
to make the protrusion more noticeable.That's true.
途中、型紙はこれでよかったかなという箇所もありますが、
もうそのままイケイケで掘り進みます。
I had some moments where I wondered if this was the right pattern.
I'll just keep digging enthusiastically.
