姥2（Uba2） ― 2021/04/03
今週から新年度ですね。企業の短期決算報告も楽しみな会社も増えてきました。
こんな硬い事と芸術的なことはあまり関係なさそうですが、一年間でどれだけ
儲かったことなんてやっぱり第三者としては知りたいですよね。
The new business year starts in this week.
I'm looking forward to see the financal statement of companies.
Such companies have been reporting. Such serious talk has nothing to do
with an artistic things, but I want to know as a third party after all
how much did they earn in a year.
そんな儲かっている会社の一つでもある通信会社のガラケーを今度スマホにしようと
考えています。スマホは今まで仕事で使ってきて大変便利ですが料金が安くなっても
移動時は必要でない限りあまり見ないでしょう。
Such telecommunication company is one of the company that have been
fattening their pockets. I'm thinking I'm going to change a flip phone
to a mobile phone. I think the mobile phone has been used for work
and is very convenient. But I won't see much when I'm on the move
unless I need it even if the price gets cheaper.
その時の目に入ってくる街の様子、自然の風景を見る時間の方がよっぽど大事です。
と能面を作り始めた頃から思うようになりました。年を取って目が悪くなってきた
せいもあって文字・写真などはでかい画面で落ち着いてじっくり見たいという気持ち
になってきました。
Seeing the city scenery or natural beautiful scenery
that comes into myr eyes at that time. I've been thining that kind of time
was more important since I started making Noh masks.
I feel like I want to calmly look at text and photos on a huge screen
because I'm getting older and my eyes are getting worse.
昨年アップした姥1は現在下塗り中ですので、2個目として作って置いた姥2を
紹介します。寒い玄関で何個かまとめて作ります。材料はイチョウです。
作業後は体が火照ってちょうどいい運動となりした。
Uba1 is currently being undercoating, so I'll show you Uba2 that
I made it as the second one. Even though it's cold,
I made some together at the door. The material is Gingko.
My body was getting hot and it became a good exercise after the work.
鑿でまっすぐ垂直に削ります。
I'm carving straight and vertically with a chisel.
たまには気晴らしで車で阿賀野川の公園に行ってみました。
家族連れがバーベキューしているのを横目で見ながら作業します。
Occasionally I went to Agano river park by car for a change.
I worked looking sideways at the family barbecuing.
公園であっても必ずしも作業性に適している場所とは限りませんね。
やっぱりそれなりの台・工具がないとだめですね。
もちろん切り屑は持って帰りましたよ。
Even a park is not always a suitable place for workability.
After all it doesn't work if there is no proper stand and tools.
Of course I brought home the chips.
彫りの写真はカットして一気にここに来ました。
頬の出っ張りを削りすぎない様、少しづつ彫ります。
I'm skipping photos of me carving and starting here.
I have to be careful not to cut the cheeks too much and
carve little by little.
両目の廻りを一周する土手がこの面の特徴ですか。
A feature of this mask would be the bank that goes around both eyes.
センターラインの確認です。
Confirming the centre line.
目ラインを頭の方から見てみます。
Seeing the eyes line from the head.
鼻は単独で彫ります。
I'm carving the nose separately.
上口ライン、口の両脇の皺の出っ張りはあまり気にしなくても
影響はありません。
You don't have to worry about wrinkled bulges
on both sides of the mouth. It doesn't affect the result.
彫りが終了しました。
Carving is end.
横から見てみます。
Looking at the side.
漆とは不思議な液体で塗っているうちに黒々と色が変化します。
不思議ですね。
Lacquer is a mysterious liquid.
The color changes black while applying lacquer.
It's really strange.
姥を見ていると、今の様な便利な時代ではなかったであろう江戸時代・室町時代の
子供を育てて苦労した1人の女性の雰囲気を感じます。姥1の修正版ではもっと
しみ・ホクロ・キズ・皺・アカギレ等を増やして激渋な面としたいです(笑)。
When I look at Uba, I get a good vibe from her.
She had difficulty bringing up her children in the Edo or Muromachi period,
which would not have been as convenient as it is now.
On next Uba1, I'm adding spots, moles, scratches, wrinkles, chapped skin,etc
and I want to make it very cultured or more intense wabisabi(laughing).
小姫 (kohime) ― 2021/04/10
思い出せば昨年の今頃はマスクはもう外せないものとなっていました。
クルーズ船の対応に追われているうちに徐々に日本国中に広まった感
がありますね。
I remembered the mask was indispensable for us around this time last year.
It seems that the infection has spread all over Japan
while they were swamped with COVID-19 pandemic on cruise ships.
ホームセンターに行ってもマスクはおろか除菌剤もなかったですね。
私はと言いますと、以前使っていたカバンの中にたまたま3枚残って
いたのを発見してうれしかったのを思い出します。
When I went to the DIY Store, there was no disinfectant as well as a mask.
In my case, I remembered I was happy to find that there were 3 of them
left in my bag I used before.
当時、花粉症対策にコンビニで買って１枚だけ使ってあとはいらない
だろうとそのままにしておいたんです。その時はどこにも売っていない
ので確か１枚を1ヶ月使い続けたかな。最後はボロボロでしたね(笑)。
I bought it at a convenience store to prevent hay-fever at that time.
And I used only one and left it as it wouldn't be needed.
I'm sure I kept using one for a month because you couldn't get it anywhere
and it became tattered at the end (laughing).
テレビで家庭内感染の報道を見てホームセンターで塗装工事に使う養生材
のマスカーを臨時の仕切り材にしようと買いましたが、使わずに
済みたいものです。
After I watched the report of family infection on TV,
I bought a masking tape that is the curing material used for painting work
at the DIY Store.I hope that I never have to use these.
マスクのおかげか毎年恒例の花粉症が昨年はまったくなかったです。
今年も今のところありません。コロナと花粉症の因果関係は分かりませんが
今年は一気に終息してもらいたいものです。
I had no hay fever last year thanks to the mask.
For now I don't. I don't know the causal relationship between
Coronavirus and hay fever,but I hope the coronavirus goes down this year.
小姫の材料は朴の木です。
こうやってノコギリで比較的容易に切れる材料でないと能面には向きません。
図鑑で調べて朴の木の密度より数値が低いものに限られます。これ以上硬いと
完成まで到達困難となります(笑)。
The material is magnolia. If you can't cut relatively easily with a saw
like this, this material is not suitable for Noh mask.
You can find that it's limited to those with lower density than
that of magnolia, If you look it up in a picture book.
If it's harder than this, it'll be difficult to reach completion.
暖炉でもあれば木のチップが燃料として有効活用出来るのですが、現状では
保管して置くことも出来ませんし土嚢袋に入れて燃えるゴミとして捨てるしかないです。
If it's a fireplace, I can use wood chips as fuel.
Currently I cannot store them as fuel. There is no choice but to put them
in a sandbag and throw it away as burnable garbage.
こういう作業にはもっと大掛かりな移動可能な材料固定台が必要なんでしょう。
年に何回もないので余りこだわっても仕方ありませんね。それにしても
毎回掃除が大変なんです。
Hopefully it would be even better if there was a movable base
for fixing the material for this kind of work.
I can't help sticking to it too much because I don't do it
many times a year.But it's hard to keep clean every time.
肉厚の材料を目の前にしてあれこれ考えます。材料探しから乾燥を
経てこの形になるまで数年経ってますが、ここから顔の形になって行くのが
楽しみなんです。それにしても心材の緑色が印象的です。
I think about many things in various ways with thick cut block
in front of me. It's been a few years before I got this shape.
After searching for materials and drying and cutting.
I'm looking forward to making it into a face shape.
But this heartwood green colour is impressive for me.
裏面にももちろん寸法は描きます。難しいのは横ラインです。材料を
一周すると同じ位置に戻ってくるかが問題ですが(笑)。
Of course I'm drawing the lines also on the back side.
The difficult thing is to draw the horizontal lines.
The problem is whether it will return to the same position
when it goes around the material(laughing).
各ラインを彫り上げた時点ではこんな感じとなります。
It becomes like this at the time of carving each lines.
この時点で目を描きます。一度描いたら上から横から斜めから遠くから
見て修正します。たれ目にならぬ様に気を配ります。1～2ミリの違いが
表情に多大な影響を与えますからこの作業は必須です。
You're drawing the eyes at this time. You need to modify it
looking from the top and,the side,an angle and some distance
after drawing it. You have to be careful not to drooping eyes.
This is absolutely necessary because 1-2 mm difference have
a great effect on facial expressions.
上口ラインは下口ラインよりも少し半径が大きいようです。
It seems that the radius of upper-lip line is a bit bigger
than that of lower-lip line.
センターラインに型紙をそっと置いて写真を撮ります。
I gently put the pattern paper on the centre line and took a picture.
ペーパーを掛けて彫りが終わりました。
Carving has ended after sandpapering.
拭き漆でもいいんですけど漆を塗ります。
The wipe-lacquering is also good enough, but I lacquered.
小姫完成です。
小姫は知人のところにお嫁に行きました。
Kohime is completed.
But she was given to my acquaintance.
若曲見7（wakashakumi7） ― 2021/04/17
若曲見も7回目ともなるとさすがに1回目と比べて似て来てはいますが
まだまだですね。彫りも大事ですが彩色はそれよりずっと奥が深いのでは
ないかと思います。自分の物にするには一度作った面を捨てる覚悟で大胆に
彩色しないと次の段階に上がれない様です。
When it comes to the 7th time to see wakashakumi, it is similar to
the first time as expected. But I'm not there yet.
I think that carving is also important, but the colouring would be
much deeper than that. You have to boldly colour getting prepared to
throw away the work you once made to make it your own.
Otherwise it seems that you can not move on to the next stage.
何か月もかけて彫った面は下手でも愛着が湧きます。それを練習台にするとなると
かなり勇気が要りますが、これは避けては通れない登竜門の様な気がしますね。
でも一度作った色を落として彩色をやり直すのはかなり勇気が要りますぞ。
You make the mask for months. Even if it's not good,
you'll be attached to it. It takes a lot of courage to use it
as a practice table. But I feel like this is an inevitable gateway
to success. It takes a lot of courage to recolour.
実物を使わないで不要な板に胡粉を塗っていろんな顔料を塗って試すのも
いいかも知れません。顔料の量を変えたり、膠の量を変えたりデータを
取ればいいんでしょうが、それでも同じものが出来ないのが能面です。
When not using the real thing, it may be good to try using various pigments
and apply whitewash to unnecessary boards. Changing the amount of pigments,
changing the amount of glue, it's better to take the data.
Nevertheless,it's hard to make exactly the same Noh mask.
手順書なんてないので模索しながらの制作となります。実際、実物を見て
刺激を受けるのもかなりいいようです。数年前に上野にある東京国立博物館と
日本橋の三井記念美術館に行って実物を見ましたが「繊細な美しさ」が
感じられました。
There is no operation manual, so you have to work while exploring.
In fact, it seems pretty good to see the real thing and get inspired.
I went to Tokyo Natl. Museum and Mitsui Memorial Museum to see
the real thing several years ago.I felt the delicate beauty.
どうやったらあんな風になるのだろう。と考えさせられます。これが刺激
なんでしょうね。さすが重要文化財は違いましたね。また行きたいですな。
How can I make it like that? It made me think a lot.
I find it stimulating. As expected, that's the important cultural properties
for you. I want to go again.
今回の若曲見7も途中経過の写真はありません。ヤキモキして
「もう、どうにでもなれ。」とあきらめ気分で作った面です。
彩色も悩みました。
This time,there is also no photos when making wakashakumi7.
This mask is made with the feeling of giving up "I don't care anymore."
I was also worried about colouring.
以前、三脚を置いてビデオカメラで自分の制作風景を撮ったこともあります。
結果はとても見られた代物ではなかったですが(笑)。写真と違っていろんな
角度からバラエティに富んだ動画としないと目の肥えた視聴者は満足しない
でしょうね(笑)。
I have also fixed the video camera on a tripod and taken a video of
my work before. It was appalling(laughing).
If you don't make a variety of videos taken from various angles,
the discerning viewer will not be satisfied unlike the photo.
単純作業の連続を動画にするにはそれはそれでコツの要る仕事となりますね。
ユーチューブのように華麗な動画とするには一人二役ではちょっと無理かな。
それはそれで余裕が出来たら考えることとしよう。
It requires skill to take a video of simple tasks in its own.
It's a little impossible to make a splendid video with double roles
like you-tube. I'll think about it if I can afford it.
