仕事と面に追われる日々、気が付けばフランスでオリンピックが
始まっています。もう4年経ったかなと。連休が終わったかなと思ったら
もうお盆が目の前に来ているではないですか。
Every day I have so much work and other things. to do.
Before you know it, the Olympics have begun in France.
I think it's already been 4 years.
Just when I thought the holidays were over, Obon is already around the corner.
面に始まって何個か行事を入れている毎日ですが、全部やり切れません。
全部やるには人生は短すぎます(笑)。幸か不幸か、雑用のない週末はありません。
若い頃はこんなに忙しかったかな(笑)。
Every day I put in some events, starting with the mask, I can't finish it all
Life is too short to do it all.
Fortunately or unfortunately, there is no weekend without chores.
Am I this busy when I was young?
今回、般若に拘ったので寸法など特色が見えて来ました。
写真と型紙と現物を並べてじーっと見ます。とにかくじーっと見続けます。
そうすると違いが見えてくるのでそれをノートに書き出します。
This time, I focused on Hannya, so I started to see the characteristics such as dimensions.
I look closely at the photo, pattern, and actual item side by side.
I'll just keep watching anyway.
Then you will see the difference, so write it down in your notebook.
書き出した項目を型紙に反映させて修正します。
後に作ったものと最初に作った物は当然違が出てきます。
般若は今まで10個は作ったかな。
You reflect the exported items on the pattern paper and make corrections.
Naturally, there will be differences between what you made first and what you made later.
I think I've made 10 Hannya so far.
10個目にしてやっと違い少しばかり分かってきましたよ。
何個かは知人にもらわれて行きましたがね。
と言うよりもらってもらったと言う方が正しいかな(笑)。
After the 10th time, I finally started to understand a little bit of the difference.
I was given some by an acquaintance.
I think it would be more accurate to say that I had them given rather than saying that.
今年中に般若は赤・白・黒と三拍子は揃え、あとは女面2個くらい
は出来るかなと目算しています。
By the end of this year, Hannya will have red, white, and black triple threat.
I'm also planning to do at least two female masks.

只今、お盆休みの真っ只中です。
覚悟はしていましたが、ここ新潟市内ではまだ猛暑とはならず平年並みの暑さです。
何十年ぶりに近所の住吉行列を目の当たりにしました。
お面をかぶっている人もいるではないですか。
I'm currently in the middle of the Obon holiday.
I was prepared, but it's not extremely hot yet, it's as hot as normal here in Niigata City.
I witnessed the Sumiyoshi procession in my neighborhood for the first time in decades.
There are some people wearing masks, right?
北前船も出たりしてこういうのも趣がありますね。
ネットで知りましたが、伊賀の国では鬼行列というものがあり、ひょろつき鬼
が人気だとか。一回は行ってみたいと思っていますが、三重県はちょっと遠いかな。
There is also a Kitamaebune, which is very quaint.
I learned on the internet that in Iga Province, there is a thing called Oni Gyoretsu.
I heard that the Haunted Demon is popular.
I would like to go there at least once, but Mie Prefecture is a little far away.
最近、虫歯で右奥の一本を抜きました。先生から「ここは部分入れ歯になるよ。」
と言われていささかショックです。もうそんな歳？
また左奥の歯の詰め物が外れ治療している間、前歯だけで噛むという羽目にも。
Recently, I had one tooth removed on the back right due to a cavity.
The doctor said"This will have to be a partial denture."
I'm a bit shocked. I feel my age. Also, the filling in my back left tooth came out.
During treatment, I ended up biting only with my front teeth.
やっぱり健康第一ですね。何かこう健康という一本の綱の上を歩いているような毎日です。
数時間彫り続けても集中力は維持できるんですが。ところがアルコールが入ると
もう駄目ですね。ということで年々アルコールは縁遠いものとなりそうです。
After all, health comes first
Every day I feel like I'm walking on a rope called health.
I can maintain my concentration even after carving for several hours.
However when alcohol comes in, it's no good.
So alcohol seems to be becoming more and more distant every year.
ちょっと脱線しましたが、般若（白）進んでます。

般若（白） (Hannya(White)) ― 2024/08/31
最近、今まで作った面を数え直したところ110個近く作ったことが分かりました。
そのうちの30個ほどが知り合いにもらわれて行きました。
もらわれて行ったものは手元にないのでまた作らなければなりません。
I recently re-counted the masks I've made so far.
I found out that I made about 110 pieces.
About 30 of them were given to me by an acquaintance.
I don't have them on me so I have to make them again.
また5個ほどが墨書面になりましたが、文字以外はインパクトがないので
改めて削り直してもう一回怖そうな墨書面になる予定です。
Also, about 5 of them have been made into ink manuscripts.
They have no impact other than the text.
I'm planning to sharpen it again and make it look scary again.
人が見るので作るには自己満足の世界から脱皮する必要があります。
そうするとこだわる所はこだわらないといけません。
これが面倒なんですが、制約がないと言っても過言ではないので
続けられてきました。
People will see it, so in order to create it, you need to break free
from the world of self-satisfaction.
Then you have to be particular about what you are particular about.
This is troublesome.
It's no exaggeration to say that there were no restrictions,
so I was able to continue.
一般の人の頭の中にはあるイメージが既にあるので、
それを満足させなければなりません。これがある一つのヒントかな。
Because the general public already has a certain image,
I must satisfy it. Maybe this is one hint.
楽器の演奏もこれに通ずるところがあるのではないかと。
イントロ、強弱、見せ場、起承転結、終わりと。
簡単に言えば客を飽きさせないためのものでしょうか。
I think that the performance of musical instruments has something similar to this.
Intro, dynamics, highlight, beginning, development, turn and conclusion and ending.
Simply put, it's to keep customers from getting bored.
そうです、一般の大衆を飽きさせないのが面倒なんです。
そういうことでつのを取り付けて般若（白）彫り終りました。
次は昔の同級生から頼まれた美人画を描くため少し間が空きます。
Yes, it's a hassle to keep the general public bored.
So, I attached the horn and completed the Hannya (white) carving.
Next, I will leave it for just a little while to draw a picture of
a beautiful woman requested by an old classmate.
