能面な日々（The days of carving Noh Mask）

般若（赤） 彩色 ( Red Hannya colouring) ― 2026/08/16

手持ちのお面も般若胡粉下地終了したもの4個となりました。

さて、般若は色付けが豪快で難しく時間が掛かります。

I now have four Hannya masks in my collection that have been 

finished with the gofun undercoat.

Now, colouring the hannya mask is bold, difficult, and time?consuming.

何色にしようかと迷います。

肌の色も薄い色から徐々に濃くしていきます。

最初に付けた色と最後に付けた色が違うということが作業を遅らせます。

I'm not sure which colour to choose.

I'll gradually change the skin tone from light to dark.

Different colours at the beginning and at the end slow down the work.

これに失敗すると色を全部落として胡粉の下地処理から

やり直さなければなりません。何回やり直したことか。

If this goes wrong, I have to remove all the paint and redo the gofun 

undercoat from scratch. I've had to redo it so many times.

最近気づいたんですが、「醤油って何色？」。

答えは茶色ではありません。濃い茶色を薄めても、また

赤に黒を混ぜても醤油色にはなりません。

I recently realised something: "What colour is soy sauce?"

The answer is not brown.

Even if you dilute a dark brown, or mix red with black,

you still won't get a soy sauce colour.

じゃ、醤油そのものを塗ってみては？

そんな英断する勇気はありません(笑)。

悪戦苦闘して何とか仕上がりました。

How about just putting plain soy sauce on it, then?

I don't have the courage to make such a big decision.

I struggled, but I somehow managed to finish it.
