小面 彩色 (Koomote colouring) ― 2026/06/25
これは表面に埋木して修正した面です。材料が全て均一だとは限りません。
一部の不具合のためその材料を丸々1個捨てるということは勿体ないので、
致し方ない修理方法でしょう。
This is a woman mask that has been patched with a wood plug.
The materials are not necessarily all uniform.
It would be a waste to throw away the whole material just because of a minor defect.
This is an unavoidable way of repairing it.
小面の髪の毛はケガキはしません。彫刻刀で髪の毛部分を削ってそれらしくします。
うねっている曲面を同じ幅で滑らかに削ります。なかなか至難の業です。
茶碗で練習するといいとは言いますが。、
左手で茶碗を持ち手前にゆっくり回転させる。同時に右手で彫刻刀を進める。
・・・な感じです。
I don't incise the hairlines on a Ko-omote mask.
Using a carving knife to shave away the hair area to make it look more realistic.
It is extremely difficult to shave a wavy curved surface smoothly
while keeping a constant width.
They say it's good to practice using a rice bowl, but …
You slowly rotate the tea bowl toward yourself with your left hand.
While you're pushing the chisel forward with your right hand at the same time.
削った細い溝はペーパーを掛け通りを出し最後に彩色します。
細筆で描くのとどちらが簡単か。どちらも神経を集中させる作業なので、
疲れてる、飲みながらと言う訳にはいきません。
The narrow grooves that have been carved are sanded to smooth the lines
and then finally painted. Which is easier, painting with a fine brush ?
Because both tasks require a high level of concentration,
I'm tired, so I can't really drink while doing this.
まだもう少し女面が続きます。
Female Noh masks will show a little longer.
